Niel Hens is Professor of Biostatistics at Hasselt University (CenStat, I-Biostat) and Professor of Biostatistics and Holder of the Scientific Chair in Evidence-based Vaccinology at the University of Antwerp (Chermid, Vaxinfectio and ESOC). After completing his PhD, entitled ‘Non- and Semi-parametric Techniques for Handling Missing Data’, in 2005, he developed an interest in modelling infectious diseases. More recently, his main interest has expanded to exploit multivariate data to estimate infectious disease parameters. He has authored more than 190 publications and is Associate Editor of Biostatistics. He has recently been awarded an ERC consolidator grant for the development of innovative statistical and mathematical models to describe infectious disease dynamics. He has ample experience of teaching in both Europe and Africa.
