Kristien Michielsen is an Assistant Professor at the International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Ghent University. Being trained in social sciences, she has been doing multidisciplinary research in the field of sexual and reproductive health since 2006, mainly focusing on adolescent sexual and reproductive health. She obtained her PhD in Social Health Sciences in November 2012 on the topic of adolescent sexual health (HIV prevention). Her main research topics are gender norms, comprehensive sexuality education, structural determinants of health, and complex evaluations. Kristien has research experience in multiple countries including Belgium, Rwanda, uganda, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa and Ecuador. She is a member of the board of Sensoa, the Flemish expertise centre for sexual health, member of the European Expert Group on Sexuality Education and vice-president of the Ghent Africa Platform.
