Jan De Maeseneer

Jan De Maeseneer graduated from UGent as a medical doctor in 1977. Since 1978 he has been working part-time as a family physician in the Botermarkt community health centre in Ledeberg, a deprived area in the city of Ghent. From 1978 to 1981 he worked as a part-time research assistant in health promotion at the Department of Public Health (under Prof. Dr. K. Vuylsteek). From 1991-2017, he has chaired the department. From 2008-2017 he has been the Vice-Dean for Strategic Planning at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Since 2013, he chairs the Expert Panel on Effective Ways of Investing in Health, advising the European Commission. He has received numerous awards and has over 150 publications in A1 journals.
